Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink

08/07/2008

Miami (Design District), FL

This place has been having such a buzz about it and I have been waiting  along time to eat there. Everytime we went there was a wait.  Finalyy my chance had come!  They had whole red radishes as bar snacks, which were gross. I like radishes in my salad, but never want to chomp on one whole. Was like biting into an onion.  When we finally sat down the service was great and menu selection was outstanding.  We ordered a plethora of apps (mussels, pate, shrimp, cheese, etc…) was yummy! They have there menu broken out into dish sizes such a small, medium ,and large, insted of apps, entrees etc.

For my main course I had the locally swordfish, which was a bit over cooked even thought the sauce was great.  The desert topped it off.  Besides the key lime cheesecake my favorite was this chocolate pudding made with olive oila nd sprinkled with salt.  Yes salt! Chocolate and salt are my new friends :) Great dining experience, great food, but a little overpriced. I guess that is what you get when dining in a restaurnat that has a buzz about it.

Over all I give this place 3.5 cookies with a lot of choclate chips.

Abokado

No site?

Miami(Mary Brickell), FL

As you can tell by the post, we spent alot of time in Brickell this weekend.  This was our second visit to Abokado.  Always a good thing if I go back;)  What a great mix of latin and Japanese food.  Food was so fresh and tasty.  Service was great and friendly.  A bit pricey, but worth it if you can share a few things between some friends.

3.5 cookies for me!

Jason and caught this advertisement for breakfast on our way home from Rosa Mexicana.  They had a $4 breakfast special for a bagel with ham, cheese, and eggs which came with a cafe con leche.  So we decided to check it out the next day after we did a 75 minute run.

Seemed a like a typical latin style breakfast place.  The girl behind the counter was new, so it took us almost 30 minutes to get our food and coffe.  Which by the way the bagel wasn’t even toasted.  Although for four bucks it was quite a deal and not too bad. I would go back again for the special, but thats about it.

 I give it 1.5 cookies.

Pepe’s Cafe

Ate here for breakfast on our last day in the keys. The hotel recommended this after I couldn’t find my usually place )

Def a divey little breakfast place which I love. The regular menu was very basic, but then the super duper waiter recommended the special……crab, Swiss, and veggie omelet with a side of almond bread. Was superb!!

Service & atmosphere were also great. The only downside is that they wouldn’t make the omelet with egg whites…there goes my cholesterol.

With the special in mind I give this breakfast place 3 cookies.

Alonzo’s

We stopped here for lunch after a good morning of Snorkeling. A local recommended it. Good pricing for good local seafood. Food was great. We shared some apps. Oysters cooked a few different ways…tomato/mozzarella salad with sun dried tomato vinaigrette. We sat outside and watched the fishing boats feed all the tarpon with their scraps. Alonzo’s also happens to bet he same owners as A&B Lobster house.

I give it 2.5 cookies.

A&B Lobster House

I started off with a salt & pepper martini (Absolute Peppar with a S&P rimmed glass). I think a nice upgrade would have been Kosher Salt and fresh ground pepper instead of the cheapo S&P shaker stuff. Would have made it more flavorfull.

Was a good thing we are trying to stay away from carbs, cause the bread sucked!

I started off with an oyster soup. Was pretty flavorful excpet the oysters were like fancy chewing gum.

The main course was awesome! Grouper crusted with a crab cake. Quality of fish was great!! Wish I could have finished it. Didn’t even have room for desert(soup was very filling)

2.75 cookies for me
